It is my second son’s 21st birthday (which blows my mind), and a time of reflection for me. I cannot remember where I heard this, but the truth in the statement is enduring. This person said,”if I teach my children to work, I will not have to worry about them.” He meant taking care of them the rest of his life. Well in the spiritual realm it goes like this. “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.” Sound familiar? Well it should, it is from third John four. This verse takes some of the edge off of being a parent when you pray for their future knowing your children walk in truth. Notice, I said nothing about their imperfections, or their great skills in any area, nothing. I did not say they will not make their share of mistakes or even take a spiritual tumble. I am just enjoying the moment John must have had 2000 years ago. The fact that they walk in truth gives my great satisfaction about their futures.
