The History of Our Location
Our church was organized in 1965 as Maranatha Baptist Church, Independent. First Sunday services were held on Easter 1965. During that year, two acres of land were purchased one mile west of Hayesville on Route 30-A.
On Easter Sunday 1966, groundbreaking ceremonies were observed for construction of our new church building. First services in the new building were held in July 1966. In July 1967, two more acres of land were purchased. On Easter Sunday 1971, groundbreaking ceremonies were held for the beginning of the erection of a Sunday School addition.
In 1974, 7.25 more acres of land were purchased. A two-bay bus garage was built in 1977 to care for the buses being used in the bus ministry. In 1980, 9.25 additional acres were purchased, including a house (to be used as the parsonage) and a gas well. The Lord has greatly blessed the Word through the years. Our 20.5 acres of land provide room for growth as the Lord blesses our service for Him.
